Kentucky Science Center Uniquely Human Exhibit By Roto 4

Inspired by 2020’s national and Louisville’s deeply local racial reckoning, Roto partnered with Kentucky Science Center to open its newest exhibit, “Uniquely Human.” Designed for teens and young adults, the 6,000-square foot gallery explores the intersection of health and humanity and how those connections shape who we are as people, how we think, and what we feel.

The $2.5M project took nearly two years to complete from initial design to installation.

The focus of the space is to create an experience in which challenging, courageous conversations about identity, community, and shared humanity can occur through a scientific lens. The 18 custom-made exhibits and experiences offer accessible entry points to these topics while engaging multiple senses along the way.

This includes “All the Colors of We,” an experience that lets visitors take an up-close picture of their skin and see themselves amongst a broad spectrum of skin samples from other museum visitors, well beyond black, brown, and white.
