The Cincinnati Museum Center contracted Roto to design and build a new Transportation Gallery, in their beautiful newly refurbished facility. Upon entering the space, visitors encounter a dynamic sculptural array of artifacts themed around the idea that “History is in Motion”. As visitors follow the natural flow of the space, they are carried into the "Shaping our City" gallery, exploring how people, geography and transportation systems have, over time, created the present-day city.
Cincinnati in Motion, houses the museum’s historic and newly refurbished room-sized model of downtown complete with operating streetcars, trains and inclines. Roto created brand new interactive and multi sensory experiences that interpret the model, including one instance where a multitude of super high resolution photographs of the model are stitched together to create an explorable digital map allowing visitors to see inside the model in ways never before possible.
Shaping the City features a series of bold, architecturally-scaled displays telling the story of six eras that define the evolution of Cincinnati through the use of large-scale artifacts, sensory-rich interactives, animated lighting and dramatic photography. A newly restored streetcar and a light-controlled map projection of the city dynamically animating through makes the space come alive with historic and contemporary photographs.
